History in the Making

Performing Arts Higher Levin is a not for profit Brooklyn based Youth Performing arts Organization. Founded by Mr. Tichard Chapman in 2006, our goal is to provide a positive alternative to the street life while enhancing knowledge and practice of the Performing arts. Participants of Higher Levin are introduced through involvement in Performing arts classes at Meyer Levin Intermediate School. This organization offers an opportunity for those students who have excelled in the various performing arts departments to continue learning and performing with the Instructors whom they have grown accustomed to and fond of throughout their 3 brief years at Meyer Levin.

Our infamous Steel Band can be found rehearsing on Fridays from 6-9PM and on Saturdays from 12-4PM at Meyer Levin Intermediate School, our home base, located at 5909 Beverly Road (Corner of Ralph Avenue) in the East Flatbush community of Brooklyn New York. For further information please contact us at (718) 791-3216. One of the shining stars of the Meyer Levin Performing arts Department was the Meyer Levin Advanced Steel Band. Throughout the years under the directorship of Mr. Chapman, the Steel Band has been warming the hearts and thrilling audiences throughout the community and city. The Higher Levin Steel Band was formed in 2005 by the members of the Meyer Levin Advanced Steel Band of that year. We were looking for a name to call our self when one of the members of the group, Dominick Robinson, threw out the name Higher Levin. Of course with most youngsters in a group, there will be some opposition when anything is decided upon, as was the case with us at the time, but we all agreed to go with it and today, Higher Levin is a very prominent name in the school and community.

Higher Levin has performed for Mayor Bloomberg, Borough President Markowitz and many other local politicians, including Dr. Kendal Stewart and Assemblyman Nick Perry. We have also partnered with the 67th Precinct of the NYPD and have performed for Police Commissioner Kelly in Prospect Park. In the Steel Band arena, we competed at the Harbor View Festival in Baltimore Maryland in 2006, 2007 and 2008. We placed 2nd in 2007 and were awarded The People's Choice Award in all three years. We also provided the road music for Roy Pierre and Associates in Last Year's Labor Day Parade. We are available to perform for celebrations of all kinds and are only a phone call away.
